Country Living, Energy Efficiency and A Lake – What More Could You Want?

One of the better kept secrets in this area is a little place known as Brewster’s Lake.  The reason not everyone knows about it is because it is a private lake and accessible only to the owners who have properties in the immediate development around it.

This special neighbourhood is located about 10 minutes from Creemore and about 20 minutes from either Blue Mountain or Collingwood.  It is also just minutes from Devil’s Glen Ski Club, OFSC trails and is close to Singhampton where you find terrific restaurants such as Michael Stadtlander’s Haisai and, the ever popular Mylar and Loretta’s.

The development gets its name from the Brewster family who once farmed the area.  The land became a small, private development of a limited number of lots back in the late 1980’s.  Today, there are homes that have been built over the years including both water front dwellings and homes with deeded access to the lake.  Prices range from the mid $200’s to $700,000+ when they become available and, there is a good mix of both full-time and seasonal residents.

The lake itself is a clean and clear, spring fed lake where motorized craft are not permitted.  It’s a natural and peaceful haven for wildlife and for the property owners to enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoes and nature.

I’ve just listed a special home for sale in Brewster’s Lake.  The owners of this home built a significant addition in 2010 and, they purchased a neighbouring lot to ensure their privacy.  Today, they Close ext autumnhave a 3600 square foot home and a large, detached 36’ x 36’ dream garage/workshop on 5.2 acres with deeded access to the lake!

This home has had an ecoEnergy audit completed and scored the highest number I have ever seen – an 85!  Among other things, you’ll find a top of the line geothermal heating and cooling system that includes water storage tank to pre-heat domestic hot water.  There is a Heat Recovery Ventilation system and, a high level of insulation with special attention to the building envelope.

At the same time the addition was done, a new septic system was installed, the roof was done with lifetime shingles, the electrical panel was upgraded, a reverse osmosis water system was installed and the list goes on.

From an aesthetic point of view, it’s impossible to forget the dream master bedroom which is enormous and features vaulted ceilings, a walk-in closet even Oprah would love and, a sumptuous ensuite.  You can view the property website at for even more details.

If you long for country living without isolation, then check out Brewster’s Lake.  It just may be your next home.
