Elvis Will Be Everywhere in Collingwood this Week-end

When Elvis Presley was born in 1935, World War II was yet to come, the Depression was not yet over and steamboats plied the Great Lakes.  He died in 1977 – the same year the first personal computers came to the market, the Eaton’s Centre opened and the Toronto Blue Jays played their first game.

And here we are in 2012 about to celebrate the King of Rock and Roll during the 18th annual Collingwood Elvis Festival running this week-end from July 26th to the 29th.  This internationally recognized event is the world’s largest Elvis festival and is sanctioned and licensed y Elvis Presley Enterprises.  The best Elvis tribute artists in the world will be in town for a car parade, a carnival, gospel service, street dance and of course, the competitions.  Thousands of visitors from across the globe will descend on our little town for a week-end of fun.
For the locals, this festival marks the beginning of holidays out of town for some and, a barrel of fun for others.

Countless volunteers help to make this event a success.  For me, it means I’ll hear the soft crooning of “Love Me Tender” in my ears as I fall asleep; provided the windows are open because it sure won’t be my hubby, John singing.

Yes, traffic will be bad and it will be hard to get around but heck, it’s just a few days and the fun and benefits far outweigh any inconvenience we may experience.  We love having visitors in our area and so to all of you, WELCOME and enjoy the week-end.
