Back in July, I told you about John’s and my purchase of our real first income/investment property. Since that time, we took possession and everything was left in tip top shape by the previous owners. Through the month, we went over regularly to collect newspapers or flyers and to tend the beautiful gardens. We advertised the unit for rent on the local “Access To Housing“ site and put an ad in the paper. At first we got a lot of calls from people who wondered if they could pay less because they were really nice or, wondered if we’d forgo our “no pets” rule as their two big dogs were really well behaved. The smokers promised to smoke outside, the Piranha owners promised they’d only feed dead rodents to their fish and still others apologized for their state saying they’d been partying all night and hadn’t yet slept. Towards the end of the month though, things really started to improve as we got calls from people transferred into the area or people building a house and needing a rental for 8 to 12 months. It actually became a difficult decision. In the end, we feel we’ve made the right decision.
Our new tenants are a family who has moved to the area due to a job change. We really like them and were happy to hand over the keys last week to their new home. And guess what? They don’t have pets, they don’t smoke and they love to garden!
So, so far so good and we couldn’t be happier. Maybe you’ll see a post from them here soon telling the story from their side?
