Like Disneyland in Wasaga Beach

Daily Commercial NewsBIG, BIG news in Wasaga Beach this week.  Plans have been announced to transform Wasaga’s famous Beach Area 1 with a 350 million dollar development over the next five years.  The new development would encompass some 25 acres and would feature a conference centre, shopping mall, major indoor theme park, condos, seven hotels and even a monorail linking parking lots to the project.  This is a gutsy and very grand vision that could and most likely will change the future of Wasaga.  Early reports suggest support and excitement for the concept but the magnitude is undoubtably a little frightening for some.  In an article in yesterday’s Globe and Mail, Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson was quoted as saying,  “I’m nervously excited about it, because it is a huge, huge development. “It’s a major change to the community, but for the most part where they are developing is already developed. It is just old.”

The speed of change in the entire region was breath-taking even before this announcement.  If there is anyone left who doubts that South Georgian Bay will be one of Canada’s most famous destinations in a few years, they’d best think again.
