More Roundabouts Are Coming This Month

I happen to love roundabouts so am pretty excited that there several new ones opening up soon with the new Highway 26 realignment between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.  I know that these traffic-calming inventions intimidate some people but really, they are not that bad and they really do work.

The Region of Waterloo provides great information about modern roundabouts and here is picture courtesy of them that really illustrates how it works.

The Huronia West and Collingwood / Town of the Blue Mountains OPP Detachments offer the following tips on how to safely and successfully navigate roundabouts:

• Slow down as you approach the roundabout
• Vehicles in the roundabout move in a counter-clockwise direction
• Choose the correct entry lane
• To turn left or to go straight choose the left lane
• To turn right or to go straight choose the right lane
• Traffic in the roundabout has the right-of-way
• Give large vehicles extra space to manoeuvre
• Avoid passing other vehicles in the roundabout
• Watch for pedestrians crossing the roadway when approaching or exiting the roundabout
• Always signal your exit
